(05/13/02) Upgraded sshd from:
SSH-2.0-2.1.0 SSH Secure Shell (non-commercial)
to:
SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.1p1
(reason : scp was stalling when copying large files.) You will probably be warned by your ssh client about a new RSA key fingerprint the next time you ssh to hiro-tan.

(03/08/02) Upgraded XFree86 to latest version; X clients should work fine now (let me know if not)

(02/12/02) Example-based Development of Grammars

(01/07/02) Updated twig to latest version (2.7.5).

(03/04/01) Put in PCI Adaptec SCSI adaptor; removed old Advansys ISA one. A lot faster and no errors or need to reboot to eject the CD!

Take a trip, and sure enough, hiro-tan becomes unavailable. We went to Europe for 2 weeks and hiro-tan was offline 3 days after we left on the trip! Came home, power-cycled the DSL modem and things are back to normal. NEXT time I go on a trip, I'll hook the DSL modem power cord to an automatic power cycling thingie. I'm not sure who to blame - the DSL manufacturer or Pacbell (my ISP). Anyway, it's not linux's fault - hiro-tan never went down, it was just impossible to reach because the DSL was out.
  • Upgraded to 2.2.16; there was a potential security hole in earlier kernels. I do my best to keep up with security :)
  • Power outages - we have had one already (see old news) - more may be on the way due to the hot weather - look at this Press Release. I'm planning to buy a UPS soon - probably this weekend.
